A Thoughtful Retirement

The Chosen Vron and KERRI

Following some minor ankle wear and tear, his connections made the compassionate and proactive decision to retire him safely while he was still healthy and thriving.

After retirement, The Chosen Vron began his rehabilitation and transition at Kingfisher Equine Rehab & Rehome Inc. at Kingfisher Farms in Solvang, California, where he has embraced a new chapter in life beyond racing.

He now serves as :

An ambassador for Thoroughbred aftercare
An educational horse helping introduce the public to retired racehorses
A symbol of responsible retirement and second careers
A beloved fan favorite continuing to inspire visitors both on and off the farm!

A Lasting Legacy

The impact of The Chosen Vron on California racing was so profound that Del Mar Racetrack renamed the historic Cary Grant Stakes in his honor — now officially known as The Chosen Vron Stakes.

His story represents exactly what KERRI stands for: honoring the athletic careers of Thoroughbreds while ensuring they receive the rehabilitation, retraining, and lifelong care they deserve after racing.

Through his role as KERRI’s ambassador horse, The Chosen Vron helps shine a light on the importance of Thoroughbred aftercare, education, and responsible transitions into second careers.

Life After Racing

Today, visitors to the farm can see a different side of this remarkable horse — relaxed, thriving, and enjoying life beyond the racetrack. Whether greeting guests, participating in educational outreach, or simply enjoying turnout in Solvang wine country, The Chosen Vron continues to leave an impression on everyone he meets.

His journey reminds us that retirement is not the end of a horse’s story — it is the beginning of a new one.
